WDIY

Yup, you read it right, it's Wednesday Do It Yourself Day. I am huge fan of DIY. It's cheap, it's creative, and it's useful. And oh-so-fulfilling. One of my favorite places to go for tutorials and inspiration is Threadbanger. A mite cheesy, with its steampunk specials and strange but loveable hosts Rob and Corrine, but full of great resources. The blog, the videos, the tutorials, the forum (fun but addictive), all are entertaining and helpful. I encourage you to check it out.

Now let's get down and dirty baby, check it out (and if you click it, you can see it a tad bit better on Flickr)...

Top and middle left: clothesline photo display, $3.00 (mini clothespins and string of black hemp from Beverly's)

Middle right: Fabio the Mug (My twelve year old sister made this in art class! Amazing, right?)

Middle and bottom right: custom art lampshade, free (black sharpie on previously owned lampshade)

Bottom left: feather headband, $2.50 (feathers and black satin ribbon from Beverly's, headbands from Dollar Tree)

So, all cheap (or free) and all fabulous. Now get out there and sharpie some crap.

ArTuesday

Hmm, the more I look at that ArTuesday header, the weirder it looks. I might be changing that later. Anywho, welcome to Tuesday, I hope you're doing well.

I love all kinds of art, I've been painting, drawing, sculpting, etc. since I was little. Recently I've started sketching a lot more, and I've developed a kind of style that works for me. So, after being strongly encouraged by family and friends, I posted my drawings on Etsy to see if I could sell any. I currently have ten drawings, and ten smaller ACEO versions of them as well. I've sold two prints, and two ACEO's. If you want to check out the shop, there's a mini showcase thing on the right somewhere. Selling on Etsy is a really great experience, and I encourage everybody to give it a try.

For the art lovers, not practitioners, you should really check out Hi-Fructose magazine, and their website as well, for some quirky underground art. I have to warn you, this stuff is bizarre. There is artistic nudity, and gore, and occasional vulgar language. I've bought two magazines from Borders and check on the site's RSS frequently, and there hasn't been much to offend me, but be on the lookout. One of the most amazing artists I've found through Hi-Fructose is Stella Im Hultburg.

Her work is so elegant and mellow, but they all give off this faint creepiness. Mmm, irresistable. I especially love the colors and how she uses tea stained paper, which makes it so organic and earthy. Of course, she's asian. Asian women are going to take over the world, one canvas at a time.

Anyway, thanks for tuning in this Tuesday. See you tomorrow. :)

Hi

So, I'm starting my own blog. I'm really not sure why, I guess secretly I wish I could be one of those blogs that gets this great following and ends up having a post featured on the Urban Outfitters blog. But, I really doubt that will happen, so instead, I just have another outlet for expelling all the jumbled up stuff in my brain. Here's how I'm going to roll this baby out, week by week:

  • Music Monday...
  • Artuesdays...

  • WDIYs (Wednesday Do It Yourself for the acronymically challenged)...

  • Foodie Thursdays (no cleverness here, sorry)...

  • Fashion Fridays...

  • Saturdays I'll be making the Weekend Web post.

As you may have noticed, my blog has no prevailing theme. This may be my downfall, but I decided it must be done. So, let's get down to business, sugar. Get ready for...

Music Monday

!

For the introductory post, I'll tell you a little about music and me. I play bass quite nicely. I sing pretty well. I play drums with soul if not skill. That's about it for personal ability. My real passion is in listening to music. I am by no means an expert or a critic. I'm just passionate, which thankfully is a very forgiving term.

My favorite place to sift through emerging (or well established) artists is the Urban Outfitters Playlist. Not updated too frequently, but it makes up for it in quality. They also offer free downloads on occasion. That reminds me, UO is currently running a contest to win their top ten albums of the year. You have until January 19th to enter, if you want to check it out.

In other musically related news, my good friend Morgan Enos, who's something of a local musical enigma, is playing a show January 15th and he invited me to join him. We have the most ridiculously awesome name for our duo/band, but you'll have to come to the show to find out what it is. It'll be at the buchon house in San Luis Obispo.

I'll leave you on this melodious monday with five artists I'm absolutely infatuated with. These links are for their music videos on youtube. Enjoy, and I hope you have a lovely Monday. See you tomorrow.
